Saint Alexandra the Queen was martyred on the same days as Saint George the Trophy Bearer and a devotee of the Virgin of Portatissa. This cave is dedicated to her. Alexandra Gavriilidou of Alona was the inspiration behind the creation of the Holy Cross chapel. The cave was discovered during excavations and is dedicated to Saint Alexandra the Queen, who was imprisoned in underground prisons (where she was martyred on April 21, 303 AD) by her husband Diocletian as a test for the torture he ordered against Saint George (Note: the main church in our village is dedicated to Saint George).
