As her name implies, the monument of Our Lady of Portatissa (copy of the icon of Our Lady of Portatissa from the Monastery of Ibera Agios Mons) was constructed for the protection of the pilgrimage. The icon of the Virgin of Portatissa, whose model resides in the Monastery of Iberon, is considered the most miraculous icon on Mount Athos and the patron saint of the entire mountain. The chapel and cave are available daily to visitors who wish to pray, make supplications, and invoke the assistance of the Holy Cross, Our Lady, and Saint Alexandra the Queen.
